Remarks on the Local Behavior of the Finite Element Method

Hieu Nguyen
Mathematics, UCSD

Abstract:

Our main goal is to study the behavior of the errorin finite element approximations of partial differentialequations. The error typically has two components -- localerror and global (pollution) error. We also will discuss thevery interesting phenomena of superconvergence, and in particular, how to determine superconvergence points, and what advantages can bederived from them.
