Abstract:
We present a brief description of a bifurcation of a solution curve of an equation in a Banach space. We focus on pitchfork type of bifurcations, and we present a sufficient a condition for their existence. We will discuss these ideas in a particular example, which consists in the study of equilibrium configurations of a toroidal fluid. We will finally comment on the stability of the solutions curves in a neighborhood of a bifurcation point.
